Thai Airways to resume flights to Johannesburg, South Africa

Thai Airways will resume direct flights to Johannesburg, South Africa. From June 2, Thai will operate flights from Bangkok to Johannesburg and return. Piyasvasti Amranand, Thai’s president, said the move is part of the airline’s network expansion plan to increase connectivity of its intercontinental and regional flights. Thai’s routenet now serves five continents: Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and Africa.

South Africa has a strong national economy, trade, and investment, with Johannesburg also the aviation center of and gateway to South Africa. This gateway will be an added convenience for passengers wishing to connect to other South African cities. As well, the re-introduction of service to Johannesburg takes place just in time for football fans to travel to South Africa and attend the World Cup 2010, organised during June 11 to July 11.

Pruet Boobphakam, Thai’s executive VP commercial department, said the carrier is offering special promotional fares for travel to Johannesburg in Royal Silk Class and Economy Class, as well as special deals for passengers traveling in groups in Royal Silk Class. Royal Orchid Plus members traveling round trip to Johannesburg will earn special mileage accumulation.
Thai is operating four flights per week on the Bangkok-Johannesburg route – on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday – with a flight time of 11 hours and using a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with 292 seats, configured into 30 seats in Royal Silk Class and 262 seats in Economy Class.
