Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced that it is implementing higher frequencies on select routes from Oct 31, 2010 – March 26, 2011, in response to growth in travel demand. From Oct 5 and Oct 31 respectively, SIA’s all-business class flight to Los Angeles from Singapore as well as its Singapore-Moscow-Houston flight will operate daily, up from five times per week currently.

Additional services will also be operated to destinations in Japan. SQ616/615 will operate three times a week between Singapore and Osaka, in addition to the current daily flights between both cities. SIA’s Singapore to Istanbul via Dubai flight will be replaced by a direct Singapore-Istanbul service which will operate up to four times per week. A separate Singapore-Dubai service will be introduced at three times per week, bringing SIA’s service to Dubai to a total of 11 times weekly.

The airline will also deploy a second daily Airbus A380 service on Flights to Sydney from Singapore route, replacing the 278-seat Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with a 471-seater A380. However, the total frequency to Sydney will remain unchanged at four flights per day. Meanwhile, budget carrier Tiger Airways is planning to add Taipei to its network as well as increase frequencies to four other destinations in Greater China, which will boost its services there by 55 per cent.

From Jan 11 next year, Tiger will commence daily flights between Singapore and Taipei – subject to regulatory approval – which is its sixth destination in Greater China. From October, it will also bump up frequencies on existing routes such as Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen. Tickets to Taipei for travel until March 26 next year are on sale on its website, going from $80 plus taxes.

‘Our existing routes have been very well received by both business and leisure travellers, and Singapore has also been attracting more tourists after the opening of both integrated resorts,’ said Rosalynn Tay, managing director of Tiger Airways (Singapore). With these additions, Tiger’s services to Greater China will increase from 44 to 68 flights per week.

The carrier also expects to grow its network as it increases its fleet from 10 to 14 aircraft by December this year. ‘We look forward to announcing more services that our increased capacity enables,’ added Ms Tay.
