Most of the ancient civilizations found in the new world were either in the central or South America; Mesa Verde National Park is an exception though with historical relics of an ancient mountain dwelling civilization that nobody knows why vanished in the 13^th century AD. Located in the state of Colorado, near the city of Cortez it is one of the most visited national parks of the USA and the park pays great attention to preserve these wonderful relics of the unknown civilization.

For getting to Cortez you will first have to take a cheap flight to Denver and then take the bus or a domestic flight to Cortez. A regular bus service runs between the city of Cortez and the Mesa Verde National Park, you can also hire your own car for the journey. You will need a couple of days to explore the place properly but if you are on a short journey to the park then the must see place is the Chain Mesa Museum with some of the most stunning artifacts of the vanished civilization and provides a deep insight about the archaeological finds by the scientists in the park.

The best way to explore the park is to travel in the company of the park rangers, and visit the places like the Mesa Palace and the balcony house some of the marvelous piece of architectures in the park. You will find a number of places in the park for a campfire, and camping out for the night. If you are travelling alone then try to camp along with some other back keepers for your security and also for enjoying your stay properly.

The largest concentration of the historical sites and relics is in the Chapin Mesa; the headquarters of the park is located here and is the first place that the park rangers will take you to. Another famous site is the Wetherhill Mesa, with the second largest concentration of relics and two cliff dwellings, a long house and a small palace carved high in the mountain. The fact that all this was done with the help of only a few old stone tools by this great unknown civilization, is what makes this place so stunning and mesmerizing.
